Who is wrestling for?

Open To All

We strive to provide a safe, inclusive environment where every child can learn and grow in the sport of wrestling. Wrestling is fun, but challenging, both mentally and physically. Athletes will learn the skills and rules to become wrestlers, but they will also learn about inner strength, respect for themselves and others, physical and mental endurance, and learning through losing. Any athlete willing to come to practice and do the work will earn, and be shown, the proper respect. We are excited to welcome all to our community!

Is wrestling worth it?

Why wrestle?

There are a lot of activities your child could do, so why wrestle? In wrestling, your child will learn typical team sport skills like respect, teamwork, and endurance. Wrestling also promotes skills that are not often taught to children, such as:

  • Self-confidence
  • Self-defense
  • Humility
  • Self-discipline
  • Mental toughness

Meet Our Coaches

  • Chris Hurd

    Head Coach; Coaching and Development

I have coached with the Lil' Hawks since 2022. It has been my pleasure to help the Club grow and mature. During my time wrestling in high school, I developed a great appreciation for the sport and the life-long lessons it teaches. I am thankful for the opportunity to pass those lessons along to upcoming generations.

  • Narvic Shelanskey

    Head Coach; Communication and Organization

I began wrestling at CPP West High School. After graduating in '04 I went on to serve in the military, eventually returning to Corning to start my family. I have been involved in coaching for almost a decade and am now entering my third year coaching the Lil' Hawks. I've always loved this sport and the lessons it teaches these young wrestlers as they continue on in life.
